Windows 7 & 2008 R2 SP1 availability and Configuration Manager Support

Windows UpdateHello everybody,

The news are flowing fast about the availability of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2, it is already available on TechNet and MSDN and should be available through Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center on February 22 2011.

However keep in mind that it is not certified for Configuration Manager 2007 because the Product Group does this after it’s official release and the certification takes from 45 to 90 days which is set from their SLA.

So, please be patient at least for 45 days in order to push it through your Configuration Manager pipelines.

Now onto the unofficial trials:

In my personal PCs (laptop, desktop) everything works OK along with FEP 2010 client, the labs are not touched for the moment (see below).

A co-MVP Kent Agerlund has already tested it for Windows 7 and he reports that everything works like a charm, take a look at his post here.

I can’t say though that I won’t attempt to install SP1 on my Windows 2008 R2 CM Server Lab, I need to see if something breaks beforehand Smile

Till the next post, take care!!
